GeoPool founder hands over CEO role
15 January, 2025
On 1 January 2025, GeoPool founder and CEO Mathias Forss handed over the role of CEO for Nordic operations to Thomas Levin. Mathias will remain at GeoPool as President and Executive Chair, focusing on strategic development, marketing, sales, and expanding the company’s presence in the Nordics and globally while also engaging more directly with customers.
A smooth transition of leadership
GeoPool’s former CEO is looking forward to the new setup and is confident his successor will fill his shoes with ease. “Building this company from the ground up and witnessing its growth into a respected exploration consultancy across multiple countries has been a remarkable experience,” Mathias reflects and continues, “As I transition from CEO for Nordic operations, I am delighted to pass the torch to Thomas Levin, who I deeply respect and trust. Having worked with Thomas during his early years at GeoPool and now seeing him return to this leadership role, I am confident that his dedication and expertise will ensure continued operational excellence in the Nordic region.”
An experienced geologist takes over the wheel
Thomas Levin worked as a geologist for GeoPool in 2008–2009 and joined the company again in spring 2024 as a Senior Project Manager and Consulting Services Unit Leader. He has an accomplished mineral exploration and mining career and extensive expertise in project management, field operations, exploration strategy, and stakeholder engagement. Previously, Thomas had a long tenure at FinnAust Mining Finland Oy and Bluejay Mining plc, where he served as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing project management and field operations across Scandinavia and Greenland.
As CEO, Thomas will oversee the Nordic countries’ operational aspects, ensuring smooth and efficient project execution. He enters the new role eager to contribute to GeoPool’s ongoing success and future growth. “I’m honoured to step into this role. It is a privilege to build upon the strong foundation that has been carefully established over the years,” Thomas says. He adds, “I look forward to collaborating closely with our dedicated team to ensure our operations run seamlessly and efficiently. With the talent and commitment within our ranks, I am confident that we will achieve remarkable results and continue delivering exceptional service to our clients!”
Long-standing leaders remain key figures
As part of GeoPool’s continued growth, key members of the leadership team will take on expanded roles. Jens Rönnqvist and Robert Stenberg, who have dedicated over a decade of service to the company, will continue their pivotal roles as managers. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Jens and Robert for their long-standing commitment and invaluable contributions. Their experience and leadership over the years are essential pillars that support GeoPool’s operations,” Mathias says.
GeoPool’s Unit Leaders, Joona Clergeaud, Jukka Manninen, and Ansu Särkelä, will also be empowered with greater responsibilities in shaping the future of the company. Their expertise and enthusiasm have been key factors in driving exploration initiatives forward and enhancing operational efficiency. “I’m confident that Joona, Jukka, and Ansu will thrive in their expanded roles, helping to shape the future of GeoPool and leading their respective units to new heights – all while fostering growth, adaptability, and success for our future operations,” Mathias says.
Exciting growth ahead for GeoPool
With Thomas now leading Nordic operations, Mathias is excited to focus entirely on serving current and future customers, developing new services, and driving GeoPool’s global expansion and strategic growth. “Our expansion into Norway, Canada, and Slovakia is just the beginning, and I am excited about future opportunities!” he says.
Mathias hopes the new, collaborative structure will strengthen the company’s commitment to continue its growth, expand and develop its services further while delivering high-quality exploration services and nurturing a culture of teamwork and professionalism aligned with the strategy. “This restructuring marks an exciting new chapter for GeoPool. I am optimistic about what we will achieve together as we continue to deliver top-quality exploration services and strengthen our collaborative culture,” Mathias concludes.
