Looking back at 2024 by CEO Mathias Forss

19 December, 2024

GeoPool has had a year of significant progress and growth. Spring and early summer started with preparing for a busy fieldwork season, with activities across Sweden, Norway, and Finland. Our projects’ diversity makes our work really enjoyable, as each project presents its unique challenges. Wherever our work takes us, our success is driven by the commitment of both new team members and long-standing staff, working together to ensure we meet high standards.

Introducing our latest experts

In Finland, Sini Hunter and Ove Klavér are spearheading advanced 3D geological modelling and resource evaluations. Their collaborative approach drives the development of high-precision models, which are essential for critical exploration decisions.

Tova Karlsson’s work in Sweden has already started to streamline the handling of tenement and stakeholder engagement in the exploration work. Her strategic input ensures that GeoPool’s operations align with the regulations while maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.

Thomas Levin has been instrumental in advising on project management across our Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian customer projects. His strategic oversight has enabled more efficient resource allocation. As a senior project manager, Thomas ensures that our operations meet both customer needs and industry best practices.

Leading with experience

While we’re excited about the fresh perspectives and innovative approaches our newer employees bring, we also recognize our long-standing team members’ invaluable experience and dedication. Industry knowledge is a cornerstone of GeoPool’s success, and their continued mentoring of younger colleagues ensures that best practices are passed down while high standards are maintained.

Supporting work-life balance

At GeoPool, we prioritise the well-being of our team. In fact, we’ve set a record with the number of male employees taking parental leave simultaneously. This milestone demonstrates our commitment to supporting employees in taking the time to be with their families while ensuring their roles are fully covered during their absence. We believe a healthy work-life balance leads to happier, more productive teams, and we’re proud to see this philosophy in action!

Points of interest

This year, junior explorers have shown particular interest in gold and base metal projects, and there has been both permit work and fieldwork related to Lithium, REE, and Uranium exploration, to mention a few. While focusing on specific commodities is often necessary, we also recognize the value of broad experience – especially in early-stage exploration. This helps geologists develop a more well-rounded skill set, which is critical for their long-term careers and generates added value for our clients.

Valuing every aspect of data collection

What is the value of different types of data, and how it’s collected?

Over the years, we’ve noticed that many exploration companies place great value on the geologist’s expertise in tasks like core logging, where attention to detail is critical. However, when it comes to more technical tasks – such as meter marking or core cutting – the technician’s experience is often undervalued. In cases like these, the focus seems to be on cost, assuming that “anyone can do that.” Yet, when exploration results are published, the primary focus is often on the grade of the commodity and its width with the QA/QC examination based on the work done by the technicians – and if geological maps or sections are presented, they’re often generalised.

This example highlights an important point: all aspects of data collection contribute to the final results, and the experience behind the technical work should be recognised and valued just as much as the more visible geological tasks.

A Year of Progress

In 2024, GeoPool saw exciting growth with new talent joining the team alongside our experienced professionals. We’ve made significant progress, and our commitment to work-life balance and ongoing industry expertise remains strong. We look forward to what 2025 will bring as we continue to drive progress and explore new opportunities!
